Sahara Desert

We drove through a snow storm to get to the Sahara Desert, which added 2 hours to the 7 hour drive.  We were transferred from our private driver to another driver that sped us another 10 minutes through the dessert until we got to the camels.   It was nothing short of a miracle that we made it in time for a camel ride at sunset to the Berber Camp.   I have always wanted to ride a camel and daydreamed of this moment.  But it was chilly and windy with sand whipping me in the face, I couldn't wait for it to end.  It was picturesque, though.  We rode for at least an hour as the sun set.  By the time we got to the camp, it was really dark and really cold.  Unfortunately, we did not bring proper clothing as we thought it would be warmer.  They fed us a yummy dinner and then built a fire. We were supposed to dance around the fire but I almost climbed in the fire to keep me warm.  We had a huge berber tent with 3 beds in it.  We took the blankets from one bed and added them to another and slept in the same bed.  We woke up early to see the sun rise from Algeria.  Pretty incredible.

Fes Morocco

Our plane was a couple hours delayed but we were still fall in love with Fez.
We stayed at a charming riad in the center of Old Town.
We were able to fit in a bit of shopping and a delicious meal.

Saying goodbye

I had to say goodbye to two of my favorite friends in November, Bethany Amidan and Becky Olson.  These families have become our family as we have done so much together these last 3 years.
Luckily we had a girls' night with us 3 and tried to squeeze every last second of being together.

Several people said that this missionary looked like Sam.
I can see it.

Congo River

Mimzy and Pop Pop are back in the Congo.  This time for only 6 months and in Kinshasa.
They actually have a nice place to live with reliable A/C and electricity.
These were the first pictures they sent fo their walk along the Congo River.

Marrakesh

Marrakesh
We stayed in the same Riad I did before with the fam.   I thought it would give me a leg up on finding our way around.  Well, I got us lost and Steph had to get us back on the right track.  It really was fun traveling with Steph again after all this time.  Ghana was 17 years ago, 16 years ago for Guatemala and 14 years ago for Peru.  We picked up right where we left off, wanting to do the same things, and getting tickled about the same things.  Steph is always prepared and I always wing it.  But this time, I had the weak bladder and needed constant bathroom breaks. We were a little over sightseeing and took a break for a massage.  The reservation was for a couple massage!!! At least we are good friends so it wasn't too awkward.  We thought it was hilarious.

Out for a walk

What a beautiful country!
We can take a few steps and see cows grazing, leaves falling, and rainbow arcing.
