Family Reunion

Our Cabin

We have recently returned from a Lindgren family reunion at Aspen Grove. Aspen Grove (above Sundance in Utah) is an organized LDS family reunion camp filled with fun activities including paint ball guns, ropes course, swimming pool, frontier village, miniature golf, badminton, shooting, hikes, fishing, and much more. We tend to rely on Justin to be our photographer so we are missing some pretty great pictures but here is what we have. I went a little crazy with the collages as I figured it was the easiest way to display all the pics.

One of the greatest things about becoming a Lindgren is to automatically become the aunt to 8 great nieces and nephews. We had so much fun teasing/playing with them, making them sing for a dollar, and trying to get the little ones to not cry when we held them.

Wendy made us all matching reunion t-shirts for family photos.

These are a few pictures of some of our activities.

One real treat was meeting up with my (Cheyney's) Mom, Dad, and sister at the Mt. Timpanogas Temple. It was the first time I got to be in the temple with McKay. Afterwards, we hiked to Stewart Falls. Here are some pictures from our hiking trips.

Things I Love About Utah # 2

The mountains in Utah are amazing. This past Friday and Saturday I had a chance to be up Millcreek, Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood with family. Here are a few of my favorite pictures. The wildflowers are in bloom when you get deep into the canyons.

Things I Love About Utah # 1

Utah has great bowling. Every time I am there I love to go bowl a couple games. My favorite bowling alleys are the Ritz Classic and Olympus Hills lanes. Here are Four reasons why bowling is great in Utah:

1. Utah is a clear air act state so you don't have to worry about smoke bugging you and getting you off on your game.

2. The floors are well oiled and the bowling balls are great. In Raleigh, at the bowling alley by my house, the balls are so chipped that you feel like you are bowling an asteroid. And you can never find the right size.

3. So cheap. Under three bucks a game in the daytime per game per person. Also Ritz classic had special all you can bowl deals some days.

4. Usualy there are not a lot of people there so you have your space.

Last Friday my brother Jeff, My Mom, and I went bowling. And here emerges the primary reason I am posting:

I am R and the previous loss to my Mom in May has been avenged. This is my all time high and has been documented and provided for you internet viewing pleasure. If this social work thing doesn't work out for me, I may be on my way to a new career.

PS Here is a video my brother sent me from bowling where I'm already talking smack.

Goodbye Grandpa

On July 11th my Grandfather Keith Webb passed away. It was a shock to have him all of the sudden gone. I will miss him. He was a pretty distinct guy with a good sense of humor. He was a genius at computers, an altruistic man and helper with his family and the Church. I'll miss his calls and forwards. I'll miss arguing about politics with him. I hope to see him on the other side, with Grandma who passed away two and a half years previously. Here is a picture of him when he was in Alaska last year.

I flew into Utah from the 15-20 for the funeral. All of us kids left our spouses/most of their kids back home and had an impromptu family reunion. It was fun for us kids to revert about 10-20 years each when we were around each other. Mostly it was just good to see each other. In tough times I am refreshed to have such a supportive and great family, even if we're all a bit of a stubborn lot.

Saturday Hiking and Bowling with the Folks

Picture of Salt Lake City from Ensign Peak

We were in Utah this past week and so we will post a bit about that in the next few posts.

This past Saturday Cheyn went up to Cherry Hill and I had time to bond with my parents individually. I went on a little hike up to Ensign Peak with my Dad in the morning. Ensign peak has a great view and is the basis of of the LDS hymn "High on the Mountain Top." The first Mormon Pioneers to reach the Salt Lake Valley hiked this prominent peak shortly after arriving and put up the US flag and a blue and white stripped and starred "Flag of the Kingdom." I am amazed how much Salt Lake is developing right now. It seems to be changing fast with commuter rail, new shops and malls in development everywhere on the East Side. Here is a pictures of my dad on Ensign peak facing the mountain range:

Later that day I went bowling with my Mom at Olympus Lanes, the bowling alley that I used to frequent when I was sluffing (Utah term for cutting class) in high school.

It was fun to see my Mom bowl. After she bowled she would jump up and down and try to steer the bowling ball with her will.

I think it worked. We bowled three games and guess who came out with the high score? In spite of one of the best bowling games of my life, My Mom beat me by two points.

So visitors to our blog, here is a question. Have any of you ever bowled higher than my Mom? Pretty impressive eh?
