D.C. with Gus

I had a wonderful trip to College Station to visit Brady and Elizabeth and meet my newest nephew Gus.  This little guy (almost 8 months old) is a delicious rolly polly cupcake.  I couldn't get enough of him.  Bick met us there too.  We went to a farmer's market and crazy bookstore.

Then early one morning, Brady and I woke up to bike to D.C.  I asked for a helmet.  Brady reluctantly got me one saying that I would look like a dork.  I insisted that I needed one because I did not want a traumatic brain injury.  When we got to the trailhead, we realized the helmet strap was broken and so it was of no use.  We had a glorious ride past the D.C. Temple, the most expensive neighborhood, parks, and then into the city.  It started to drizzle on us so instead of biking along the mall, we decided to go see where Brady works.  We biked into the city to the World Bank.  We saw all of the buildings and got security clearance to go inside.  We needed to hurry to meet Elizabeth, Bick and Gus at the Senate building so we could get a personal tour of the capital.  I was following Brady and he went on a yellow turning RED.  I couldn't stop and tried to cross the street with on coming traffic.  It was TERRIFYING.  I couldn't even scream.  I was hit by a little sports car and I flew up onto his hood.  I came out of nowhere for him.  I landed on my hip/buttock and was completely fine.  It was right in front of the White House and so there was a lot of security there that saw it all.  They gave me a look over, quick physical and mental exam.  The gentleman was so shaken up.  I gave him a hug and was on our way.  Luckily the bike was fine.  Brady and I booked it to the Senators building.  I was a little shaky but full of adrenaline.  We made it 10 minutes late.  As I was going through security, I explained that "I just got hit by a car."  Elizabeth's first thought was, "Cheyney asked for a helmet!"  I was so dang lucky lucky lucky!  It could have been a bus!  I called Ryan and told him the story but that evening when I could sit still and think, I felt a little sick.  I can not get hurt.  I have to be here for my babies.  I need to be more careful and THANKFUL for my safety.

Later we went to a Tapas restaurant and then to see Beautiful, the Carol King Broadway show that was so worth it!  I am so grateful for this time with Brady, Elizabeth and Gus.
