This windy and beautiful spot was believed to be the end of the world. It is also the spot of Fortaleza Fort which was built to protect the town from North African raiders It was from here that Henry the Navigator devised his 15th century expeditions to the uncharted seas around the western side of Africa, which heralded in the golden era of Portugal exploration.
