Mycenae

We realized that we were not going to make it in time Delphi in time because it closed at 3:30 in the off-peak season. We thought it closed at 8 pm. So we re-routed our trip and went clockwise instead. We drove through Corinth and made it to Mycenae. Archeologists state that Mycenae was first occupied 7000 BC but that aristocrats started living here 1700 BC. This is the place in Greek Mythology where Perseus, Son of Zeus and Danae, had the Cyclopes build the city wall. Mycenae is also known as the city of Argamemnon. King Argamemnon is said to have led the expedition against Troy in the Trojan war. It is situated between two hills and has stone lions at the gate. In the Iliad, Homer describes Mycenae as the city of gold and they ruled over the Greek civilization for many years. The grave sites had many rich artifacts proving its wealth and power. It began to decline in 1200 BC and then was devastated by a series of fires.

It was so fascinating to have a place come to life when I only barely knew how to
pronounce it before.

Lions that guard the gate

Temple of Poseidon

We arrived at the Athens late at night and google maps sent us on a dirt road that turned into a river.
I got out to see how deep it was and got my shoes covered in mud. We had to turn around in a garden
and drive away from guard dogs. We finally found our hotel and settled in for the night.

On Sunday, we were worried that everything would be closed and it would be difficult to find breakfast but we passed by a glorious bakery and got sandwiches, quiche, donuts and baklava. Then we were off to the Temple of Poseidon. The temple was perched along rugged coast with rocky cliffs and crashing waves. It is amazing that they were able to transport all of the limestone and granite to this site.
It is a perfect place to honor the god of the sea.

Singing Time

Singing the second verse of Scripture Power
This song always make me think of Branagan

I’ll find the sword of truth in each scripture that I learn.
I’ll take the shield of faith from these pages that I turn.
I’ll wear each vital part of the armor of the Lord,
And fight my daily battles, and win a great reward.

Luke's baptism

What a glorious day for Luke and Jack!
These two guys are best buds and it was so cool that they got to share this special day.
We are so proud of Luke and his decision to follow Christ and be a member of His church.
