31 flavors and then some

Ryan turns 31 on the 31st of March.

I can go on and on about how much I love this guy. I was hoping that for the comments you will help me tell him a favorite memory or a reason you think he is great.

1. He is the world's greatest BYU fan.
2. He is ranked #2 at online Tetris in all of North Carolina.
3. Even with my toddler-like temper tantrums, he will ride my moods out and always stay calm, cool, and collected.
4. He is not materialistic and only asked for variety of soap, new razors, and contact solution for his birthday.
5. He is a connoisseur of good food and an excellent chef. I will never go hungry.

Some favorite memories.

My first time watching him karaoke. I never thought a white guy from Sandy, Utah would know all the words to M&M. He knows all the old school rapers and their songs. I was like "who is this guy," but it made me love him even more.

This is acutally not my memory, but hearing about it sure made me laugh. Renee, you can relive this one if you want. After a run and asking to borrow a shower, Ryan chased Renee around her L.A. apartment in his whitey tighties. Just when you think he is a pretty straight laced guy, he will do something like this that catches you off guard and has you rolling on the floor with laughter.

I got to travel to Fiji with Ryan and meet people from his mission. Everyone remembered him almost 10 years later. He was so adored that a lady named her son after him. She got teary because this was the first time her son, Ryan, would get to meet his namesake. It sure is something when you see others adore your husband so much that they want their son to grow up to be like him.

Happy Birthday RYAN!!!

Ryan is a great friend! You were there for me when Paul and I were broken up. I don't know if I have ever told you how much I appreciate that. Thank You! Rollerblading was so fun! Have a great birthday! You deserve it!

Oh yeah, and Ryan used to store his corndogs in our freezer at Campus Plaza. Yes, Ryan ate corndogs!

I like Ryan. He is good. I think I have see him in at least 31 pictures without seeing a truly good one of him. He always has his eyes closed or has a silly look on his face or is being held in the arms of three ladies (relax, it was his sister's in law and Cheyney). He owns at least 31 items of clothing, but probably not many more, and will probably put at least 31 million miles on his Ford Focus. But Cheyney's words about going back to Fiji made me think. Ryan is the type of person that you remember and always look forward to seeing. We haven't had the chance to spend as much time with Ryan as other people but I think fondly of our exploits together and hope to plan many trips with the Lindgrens in the future. Ryan, you're a class act and I hope to be at least half the man you are some day. Happy 31st!! You are offically entering your 7th year of degeneration, congrats!!

"M&M"?! Cheyn you kill me! hahaha

Ryan! Happy Golden Birthday!!! May all the gold you deserve fall into your path today, I pray.

The best memory of Ryan: (not that this is very relevant now, but...) he is the best dater ever! He was so nonchalant about it that you'd never even realize that you had been on a date with him until a few weeks later. Takes the weirdness out of it all and just lets you get to know people -- either for finding THE ONE or just for finding great friends. Genius!

Love you both! But Ryan more, just for today.

Big fan of Ryan right here. My 2 favorite things about him are: 1. The way he balances out my Cheyney and appreciates what a great girl she is... not trying to turn this into a Che comment, but he really loves her and that makes me like him. 2. The excellent banter we have that keeps me thinking even while I'm saying a sentence just trying to guess where he'll go next. HAPPY DAY RYAN.

He's the kind of guy you hug even if you're a dude. Never condescending, always positive, and he appreciates more things than most people know exist. I think he's the anti-me, which is about as high praise as I can give.

My mother agrees with Ridge on the lack of, shall we say, photogenic photos of Ryan. And Ryan running around in whitie tighties is an image I thought I'd repressed, but now memories of the young boy Ryan come flooding back.

What's not to like about this kid? In high school, he befriended several of his special needs co-workers, and treated them just like regular kids. This may have instilled his social work career.

He's the most non-judgmental and peaceful person I've known.

He still loves me, even though I voted for McCain.

And the best thing about Bird. . . he married Cheyney!

I am not a regular blog reader so this comment is late, but I wanted to comment on my favorite memories of Ryan.
1) When I was crying about a break up in New York (which believe me, very few people have seen me cry), Ryan told me if I was so sad I should just kill myself. Mean, I know. But it made me laugh.
2) When I was in Mexico with Ryan he wanted to rent boogie boards. I thought it would be a whole day event. A couple minutes later he wanted to go in because he was getting a sunburn and feeling motion sickness.
3) Ryan wore his blue sarong all over the International House in New York.
4) At a bar in New York, some guy made a move on Ryan and groped him. Yep, totally groped him. The funny thing was that Ryan didn't see it coming. (Most men back up when a man starts moving in on him. Ryan got closer to hear what he had to say).
5) Because of Ryan, I always defend LDS to my friends. I have the utmost respect for him and his faith and you couldn't ask for a better representative of the church than him.
I hope you had a great birthday!! Stacy

Favorite Ryan memories:

1) Asian Festival at BYU. Too cheap to buy tickets, so we watched from the balcony.
2) Waiting in line in 3 degree weather to get cheap broadway tickets. I seriously thought I was going to loose my toes.
3) When Ry and Cheyney came to visit for Maida's wedding-- so fun to finally meet Cheyney!
4) I'm too tired to think of anymore, but there are tons.

Oh my gosh, I'm less embarrassed about Adam's love of M&M and other rappers now...how funny is that! The tighty-whitey story is even better though. Who'd have thought? What a funny cool guy--and no one deserves a great husband like Cheyney! Many happy returns

He sounds so great! I will have to meet him someday...

And I am not sure I really believe that you have toddler-like tantrums. I lived with you for a year you know - I never saw even a hint of it.

Happy belated birthday Ryan! I am the worst friend ever, particularly after the wonderful song you and cheyney sang to me on my b-day. Best voicemail of the year.

I have too many fond memories of Ryan to recount. All those who say they can't get the image of Ry in his tighty whities out of their heads...YOU HAVE NO EFFING IDEA!! It wasn't just the tighty whities. It wasn't even just the running around in them. It wasn't even the tube socks he wore as accesories. I think the most disturbing part was when he jumped out of the kitchen door with his arms in the air and knees at his elbows and I found myself cornered and trapped in my back yard. I'm still trying to cope with the trauma.

I came across another favorite memory the other day when I was packing. I found a note, written by Ryan, and thoughtfully left on my windshield after church one day that said something to the effect of, "I would love to give you the gift of my presence at your house for dinner tonight. I don't eat red meat and I'll be there at 6:00." The funny thing is...his presence at dinner really was a gift. Things are always better with Ryan around. He is a true friend who can make you laugh as much as he can make you cry (in a good way...mostly) and he gives a killer side hug. Love you Ryan! Happy birthday!!
