The Lengthen Your Stride 5k

The Church put on a 5k this past Saturday. In order to enter you had to donate at least ten items of food or ten dollars each to go to the local food bank. The announcer said that over a thousand people entered the 5k.

At church most of the people we know are from the primary. Here is Cheyney giving some pre-race advice to one of the kids from our primary class
Here are some of the littler runners from primary:
Like most things Mormon, the event was well organized, family friendly, and a bit late getting going.
Reluctantly crouched at the starting line

Cheyn set the pace. She runs more often than I do. She told me during the race that it was 'nice that I would stay back' and run with her. In actuality, I have a fast wife I can barely keep up with. At the end I felt like I wanted to die. We finished the 5k at 27:22 and 27:23.

Cape Lookout Lighthouse

We have lived in North Carolina for 2 years and finally made it to the Outerbanks. We loved touring the islands with the lighthouse and the wild horses. I think I am becoming a fan like my MIL, Janet. Let's go see MORE!

Yikes. It's difficult to take pictures while looking into the sun!
We finally put on our sunglasses.

The Roast Song

The kids made up a roast song for my wedding so we had to do one for Bran's. It went a little something like this.....

Branagan's Bachelor Night

On Bran's second to last night of "freedom", his closest friends hazed him. This was not exactly what Branagan was expecting for a fun Mormon bachelor party. He wanted to play Rock Band with a strobe light and surround sound. Instead he got a convict uniform, ball and chain, and several missions. He was forced to go in public places and shout, "I LOVE MY BALL AND CHAIN!" He also was forced to ask stangers if they had any marriage advice. Unfortunately, one hundred percent of a random sample of Walmart's patrons that night were not happily married and gave advice like "Dont do it" and "The second year was hell." It looks like their little fun-night-out backfired. But, it brought no doubts to Branagan's mind because he is head over heals for Claire.

We Love To Fly And It Shows

I (Ryan) totally have a crush on Delta airlines right now, so don't mind if I brag and swoon over our experience. Earlier this month we took a trip to Utah and should be posting some stuff on that soon. But the coolest thing happened on the day we flew out.

We got up at four and made our way to the airport. As the flight was loading, Delta announced that they overbooked and asked for two volunteers to be rescheduled... We sat there for a bit and then it looked like we missed our chance. A few people got in line before we could. Long story short, they couldn't find an alternate flight for them, and we got our turn.

We were going to have a layover in Cincinnati and Denver and get there at around one.

Instead we got there at four but got all this:
  • One layover in DFW where we got to visit with our friend and her cute new baby
  • 400$ of delta credit each
  • breakfast and lunch vouchers
  • First class form Dallas to SLC. We got a Twix bar and a banana in first class, and the flight attendants treated us extra nice too. We sat in wider cushier seats as well.
On our flight back I was eager and ready to pounce like a cat if they announced, to get more perks, but no dice.

Any one else ever have something cool like this happen to them when traveling?
