HALF Marathon

Ryan and I ran a half marathon in Gateway, CO (about an hour outside of Grand Junction). It was a beautiful race with lots of red rock. This picture is before the race. I am sporting knee sleeves and Ryan looks so hot with his pilot glasses and sweat band.
We made it! Ryan ran it in 1 hr and 52 min and I did it in 2 hr and 3 min. All the sweat evaporated leaving white salt crystals all over our faces. Sam, McKay and Craig were there to greet us at the finish line.

Visit from Kazie and Craig

Aunt Kazie and Uncle Craigy made a spontaneous trip to see us this last weekend. They drove 8 1/2 hours one way for little Sam. He has us all wrapped around his finger. We had a wonderful time exploring Manitou Springs and Garden of the Gods. Manitou Springs has an area with tons of old school arcade games and rides.

Sam is not sure liked the elephant ride.

McKay was a beautiful bride. It is crazy to think that she is all grown up and married. I love her so! I am also happy to have a new fun brother, Craig.

As the youngest, McKay has always been picked on and her wedding day was no exception. We did our family tradition and made a roast song. I messed up the video, but here are the lyrics sung to Jonathan Coulton's Skullcrusher Mountain.

Hypnotized

One of the nights on the cruise, there was a hypnotist as our evening entertainer. I have always been curious of being hypnotized and have never seen a show. McKay was eager to go on stage to try it out. It was very easy to get on stage, as not very many people were volunteering, so without over analyzing or even thinking about it, I jumped up too. Then I was worried, what if I lose control and wet my pants. I really should have gone to the bathroom before.

He started out with the elimination process. I was not being put under but did feel relaxed. I did not want to be banished from the stage or leave McKay. Before I knew it, it was too late. I was stuck on stage doing whatever he told me. I felt like it was peer pressure to make everyone think I was under. So, I used my acting skills which apparently are not so good because at one point I was laughing at the lady next to me. She was totally over acting. She was freaking out and fell on me. I moved my legs so she would fall to the floor. I also noticed McKay was doing some pretty good fake crying when he told us that we were watching a REALLY SAD movie.

So, in all, he had us acting cold, smelly, sad, scared, swatting flies, smelling other people's shoes, catching fake money, being covered in poison ivy, and falling back asleep. My favorite was the end when he had a guy dance like Michael Jackson to Thriller. We were his back up dancers and were supposed to be Hunchback of Notre Dame. As I walked by McKay, she swatted me on the bum. She is a good actor too.

24 Hours in Washington DC

We took a quick trip on Friday night. Cheyney's sister, McKay, has been in town visiting and so we decided to use the weekend to go up to the capitol, which is about a four and a half hour trip from Raleigh. We left work a little early and made it up before eight. Our L.A. Litigator friends will be jealous that we got to meet up with our friend Dan Oakes, who is in law school at GW, for dinner in Georgetown. It was so nice to see Dan again. We haven't seen him since our wedding and he's still as cool as ever. Coast to Coast, LA to DC, Dan seems to know how to do it all.



After dinner we went to the Lincoln Memorial and later crashed at a Marriott near Arlington National Cemetery (thanks mom for the gift cards). The next day we got up early and went on a Segway tour. I totally recommend it. We covered about six miles in three hours and those segways are sure fun and easy. Both Cheyney and I managed to fling ourselves off it once, but only because we were goofing around. We got to pull around in front of the White House and see the motorcade of the President of Brazil.






The tour guide was cool and we finished the tour just as it started to rain. After lunch we went to the National Museum of American History. They have remodeled and we couldn't find the Sun Stone or Prince's guitar, but were able to see Dorothy's ruby slippers, US presidential items, First Lady gowns, and C3P0. Being a tourist was tiring and so we headed back to Raleigh after that.

We've been to DC multiple times and still haven't seen half of what we want to see. There are so many great museums we need to hit. We still have to go to the Zoo and maybe a baseball game. Also we want to tour the White House and the Capitol. So we'll be back, but were happy to spend a day up there with McKay and Dan.
